Boracay Chronicles Day 01.
Some Hundred Miles to Score.
.
If I had fifty million pesos stashed somewhere ---as a trust fund, personal savings, an inheritance or lottery winnings--- I'd quit my job pronto. I wasn't born in a wealthy family and I have to work to live. The best thing I could do about it was to work in the way that I would enjoy it and be good at it. Thus, becoming a lawyer. But really, if I could subsist without working, I would.
.
What would I do with all the time that I would otherwise be spending billing clients? For one, I would rediscover the writer in me and type away those novels and stories that I have longed to write. I once imagined myself to be the JD Salinger of my generation. I will still be that someday but now I have to work.

When I am not in some nook writing or reading the books that will inspire and enrich my writing, I will be travelling. I will go to the nearest and farthest corners of the world to uncover their beauty, meet their people, taste their food, live their ways of life, speak their language, sleep with their men and women and feel the sun that shines only for them. I will wander the world to as many destinations as time and money would permit me.

But since I do not have any hidden loot to support the good life that I would rather live, I write only sparringly and travel only once or twice a year.

This morning, I left home early to catch the ninetwenty flight that would take me to Boracay. My bags were packed as early as Sunday but I did some last minute shopping for food and swimwear yesterday and so I was a little tired last night from my repacking. Add to that the fact that I was in the office until around eight pm to make sure that no work is left unfinished that would cause my secretary, or my bosses' secretaries, to disturb my anticipated four days of rest and recreation. And nothing but rest and recreation. Still, I have to congratulate myself for being able to be up by five a.m. to have adequate breakfast and survive that long and early trip to the airport.

The flight was delayed by about twenty minutes. Still, am very thankful that the weather cooperated ---no rain or dark clouds--- and we reached Kalibo airport without incident. There was even a bonus on the plane as we flew right over Mt. Taal and I was able to have a bird's eye view of the volcano's mouth.

I always seem to pick the best time to come to Boracay. It was reported that yesterday and this morning, it was raining heavily on the island paradise. However, the weather was great from the time we took the ferry ride until my tired feet landed on the island. After that, we took the short shuttle ride to our hotel. We checked-in, placed our bags in the room and then went to the bank. I was supposed to pay my credit card bills (due today) via the ATM but, like the bank's internet site, the network wasn't functioning properly. I just withdrew some cash to pay my bills over the counter and then pocketed some wads of spending money.

The next order of business was to look for a place to eat. It was nearly two o'clock in the afternoon and we were famished. There were a lot of places that came to mind but I would rather have a long and relaxing dinner there. In the end, we had a quick lunch at Andok's. It was my first time to eat there and since the supposedly grilled food serve to us was already cold, probably my last time, too.

While waiting for my companions to finish their food, I had time to plan how we would spend the succeeding days. Although I was long looking forward to this trip, my hectic work schedule did not provide me the opportunity to plan our activities. It was only at Andok's that I got my chance. Devising the schedule and the activities was left to me because I am the only Boracay veteran in the bunch. All of the others are first timers on the island.

I worked our schedule around the sun, its rising, peak and setting. Since there were two kids with me on the trip, they would want to be in the water most of the time. However, the adults certainly do not want to bathe when the sun is so high. Thus, I announced that swimming will be right after breakfast and then again at around four o'clock in the afternoon. These are the best times that we could avoid returning to Manila with a sunburn. Breakfast will be as early as seven a.m. Lunch is at twelve and dinner at seven, as usual. Shopping will be done after lunch or after dinner. Watersports and island hopping will be in the morning, between nine and eleven o'clock.

What I need not announce was that the evenings are reserved for partying. Boracay has this unique reputation of having the best nightlife and parties. Along the stretch of the beach, once it hits nine o'clock, the island is transformed into one big dancing floor. One can just frolick from one beachfront to another for one's choice of music, food, drinks and company. The beach has everything and everyone is sure to enjoy the nightlife.

Although the principal reason why I went to Boracay is to have some rest from my very hectic and stressful urban job, I have a few other things in my agenda. One is that I will use the peace and quite to re-evaluate my career and personal life. And second, to get laid with some stranger. It can be a one-night stand or it can be a start of something that I could pursue when we get back to Manila. It can be a man or a woman. Anyway, as long as I get laid, I will already consider this vacation a success.

From where I sat this morning at DMall, I was already pleased by the prospect that Agenda 2 will be accomplished. Gorgeous men sporting bare torsos and bulging pecs were walking from all directions. I did not know where to look first or whom to follow with my gaze as he progressed from one point of the open mall to another. And the women were not far behind either. Anywhere I looked a beautiful body, barely dressed, is walking. I was grinning. I kept my RayBan on so that the others wouldn't know where I was looking.

This afternoon, I also spent a considerable time feasting my eyes on gym bodies sauntering under the hot sun. When I tired of swimming, I just sat on the beach and watched as people passed by. Sometimes I pretended to read my pocketbook but mostly I enjoyed the sights.

Some of the guys on the island, I thought, weren't here to swim but simply to display the ripped physique that they worked for in the gym. Most guys walked bare-chested with the waists of their swimming trunks a little low, showing that thin slit from their tummy to their pubes. Darn it that Speedos aren't in vogue and most of these hot guys ---excepting a pair of hot but obviously gay Europeans--- preferred to wear board shorts. Willing to flaunt their abs and pecs but not their bulges??!! Aha.

I travelled a few hundred miles from Manila to get laid. I am quite sure that a good percentage of the men and women openly displaying their bodies have the same agenda too, especially the singles who travelled here with their friends. In the next nights, I will try my luck. Hopefully, I will cross paths with another who has the same thing in mind.

I hope. And I will be prepared. I have two packs of condom and lube in my hotel room waiting for some action.
