Like last year, I have a bunch of awards and titles to give out this year. I will be honoring my favorite persons from 2007, the best books, movies and music, as well as the extraordinary achievements in literature, movies and music. I love giving out awards as much as making lists. This explains why I am able to collect enough patience to sit through four hours of an Oscar or Golden Globe broadcast even if most of the time it is just advertisements that fill the air. I still haven't made up my mind with respect to the other awards. It is either because the competition is so stiff that I could not choose just one, or that the pool is so shallow I can't pick a clear winner.

Anyway, the first citation I am making today features a runaway winner. She dominated my 2007 in terms of female admiration and fantasy material. She is this year's honoree as Woman of the Year: Jessica Alba.
As a quasi-fanboy, I was quite disappointed with how Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer turned out. I felt that the story was too shallow, there was no symmetry between the members of the heroic quartet and the villains they are set out to stop, and action scenes were quite wanting and unimpressive. At least, there was severe improvement in the visual effects. Marvel Entertainment stretched the budget a bit after the surprise box office turn-out for the first FF film and it shows.
Even Chris Evans wasn't as hot in this film. At least he was able to redeem himself when he emerged as "Harvard hottie" in The Nanny Diaries.
I recently purchased a copy of the June 2007 issue of GQ. Jessica, in white, V-shaped, one-piece swimming suit stares seductively from the cover. I haven't read any of the articles. I just scanned through it during the Christmas break. For now, all I do is admire Jessica on the cover and flip through the inside pages to see more of her sexy pictures. Aside from Silver Surfer, Jessica appeared in four other movies in 2007. These are: Awake, Bill, Good Luck Chuck and The Ten. This year, The Eye and The Love Guru will be released while we have to wait until 2009 for Sin City 2.
